How to hide customers who have opted out of communications

Filter and remove unsubscribed/opted-out customers from your Audiences

Updated this week

Applies to: All

Overview

By default your Audiences will only be narrowed by the applied filters. This may or may on may not include customers that are unsubscribed from messages. Since these clients cannot be contacted through Endear's messaging features, you may want to remove them from your Audience view.

Here's how to filter out unsubscribed/opted-out clients from an audience:

  1. Navigate to your desired audience.

  2. Find the filter category Marketing Consent and apply the following filters:

    • Marketing Consent > Unsubscribed from Email Marketing NOT in Endear

    • Marketing Consent > Unsubscribed from SMS Marketing NOT in Endear

  3. Save the filtered view to an existing audience or create a new audience for easy future access.

Filters to Remove Unsubscribed Customers

A common question we get is "how can I ensure my audience does not show anyone who is unsubscribed from Endear messages?". To do so, you would apply the following filters to any audience:

  • Marketing Consent > Unsubscribed from Email Marketing NOT in Endear

  • Marketing Consent > Unsubscribed from SMS Marketing NOT in Endear

πŸ’‘ Tip: Filters can be tricky to read - especially if they have double negatives. An easy way to remember this one is to flip the order and read it as "people who are NOT unsubscribed in Endear".

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Navigate to your Audiences section and access applicable audience.

2. Select + Filter.

3. Find the filter category Marketing Consent. Apply the appropriate filters that include or exclude customers based on their current marketing subscription.

  • You can select the marketing subscription from a specific integration, or you can choose the marketing subscription status globally.

  • You can choose to layer multiple filters (i.e., to see people who are subscribed to both SMS and email) or you can choose just one filter (i.e., people who are only subscribed to SMS).

4. Select Confirm to apply the filter(s).

5. You will see the applied filters appear in a grey box below the search bar. Your audience will now exclude customers who cannot receive communications through Endear. To save this filtered view for future use, select Save after applying your filters.

6. You can choose to either Save these changes to an existing audience or Create new audience. Remember that audiences are dynamic lists that automatically update as customer data changes.
